The Health & Safety Executive revealed that, in 2003/04, there were 235 fatal injuries to workers, a rate of 0.81 per 100,000 workers. In 2003/04 employers reported 159,809 other injuries, a rate of 629.1 per hundred thousand employees. Ill health was evident with an estimated 2.2 million people in Great Britain suffering from an illness which they believed was caused or made worse by their current or past work. Finally, it was revealed that in 2003-04 an estimated 39 million working days were lost overall, 30 million due to work-related ill health and 9 million due to workplace injury.

Why Train?
According to the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health: "things we do can risk health and safety without us even knowing. Small lapses of concentration and careless mistakes in the workplace caused 129,143 employees in Britain to be off work due to work injuries for more than 3 days in 2003/2004. Maintaining and protecting health is not just important to employees, it's also important to employers... Many injuries and incidences can very often be avoided with basic training."
